Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 29, 2026
Most other Chatterbee information remains on your device. If you choose to enable backups, Chatterbee can store an encrypted backup in the private App Data area of your own Google Drive account.
AI features work differently. Dedicated AI chats and information intentionally submitted to cloud AI features must be sent in readable form to the service provider that processes the request. Dedicated AI chats therefore do not have the same end-to-end encryption protections as ordinary conversations between Chatterbee users.
Chatterbee also provides Private Mode for conversations between users. Private Mode prevents AI features on your device from using your private conversation information and allows other participants to use supported AI features while Chatterbee excludes or redacts your attributable information from the context prepared for cloud AI processing. Private Mode does not apply to dedicated AI companion chats.
We do not sell your personal information. Under the AI services and configurations used by Chatterbee, information submitted to our AI providers is not used to train their AI models.
You may delete your account and associated Chatterbee cloud data from within the App or through our website. If you have enabled Google Drive backup, you may also choose whether to delete or preserve that separate backup. See Delete My Data.
1. Who we are
Chatterbee is operated by FinRight Studios LLC, a Texas limited liability company currently listed on Google Play under the developer name FinRight Studios ("FinRight Studios", "Chatterbee", "we", "us", or "our").
This Privacy Policy describes how we access, collect, use, process, retain, and disclose information in connection with the Chatterbee mobile application for Android and Wear OS (the "App") and the Chatterbee website (the "Site").
2. Information we access or collect
2.1 Account and profile information
Chatterbee stores a limited amount of account information in our cloud systems so that we can authenticate users and provide the service. This information includes:
- Your phone number, used for account creation, verification, and identification;
- Your display name; and
- Your profile photo or avatar.
Other Chatterbee user information is generally stored locally on your device unless it is temporarily processed as part of a feature you choose to use or included in an optional Google Drive backup.
2.2 Contacts
If you grant Chatterbee permission to access your device contacts, the App reads contact names, phone numbers, and contact photos locally on your device. This allows Chatterbee to synchronize its local contact list with your device phonebook, display familiar names and photos, and automatically reflect changes to your contacts.
Your device address book is not uploaded to FinRight Studios or our cloud providers.
If you choose to save a Chatterbee user to your device contacts or use a supported feature to edit that person's phonebook entry, Chatterbee may create or update the corresponding Android contact in response to your action.
Contact access occurs only after you grant the applicable Android permission. You may revoke this permission through your device settings, although doing so may limit contact synchronization and related features.
2.3 Messages and files
Chatterbee processes information that you send or receive through the App, including:
- Text messages;
- Photos and images;
- Videos;
- Voice messages and audio files;
- Documents and other attachments;
- Reactions, replies, and related conversation information; and
- Information necessary to route and deliver messages.
Ordinary person-to-person and group message content is protected using end-to-end encryption as described in Section 5.
Message history is primarily maintained locally on participants' devices. FinRight Studios does not maintain a permanent plaintext cloud archive of ordinary conversations.
2.4 Camera, microphone, and media access
If you grant the applicable permissions, Chatterbee may access your device's camera, microphone, photos, videos, or other selected media when you choose to use features that require them, including:
- Voice and video calls;
- Voice messages;
- Taking or sending photos and videos;
- Selecting existing media to attach or send;
- Voice transcription;
- Voice-enabled AI features; and
- Other audio, video, or media features you explicitly activate.
Chatterbee does not use these permissions to continuously collect audio, video, or media in the background for advertising or profiling purposes.
2.5 Call information
When you use voice or video calling, Chatterbee and the service providers necessary to conduct the call may process:
- Audio and video streams necessary to conduct the call;
- Call participants;
- Call start and end times;
- Connection and session information; and
- Technical information necessary to establish, maintain, reconnect, and troubleshoot calls.
2.6 Device, notification, usage, and diagnostic information
Chatterbee may automatically process limited technical information such as:
- Push notification identifiers: Firebase Cloud Messaging tokens used to notify your device about messages, calls, and other relevant activity;
- Presence information: online status, last-seen information, typing state, and similar communication metadata where supported;
- App usage information: events relating to feature usage and interaction with the App;
- Crash and performance information: diagnostic information used to identify crashes, errors, and performance problems; and
- Security and abuse-prevention information: limited device or request information used to protect Chatterbee from unauthorized automated use, fraud, spam, and abuse.
2.7 Location and map previews
Chatterbee does not use Google Maps to continuously track or transmit your device location.
Google Maps may be used to display a visual map preview when an address, location pin, or similar location information appears in a conversation. The information necessary to request and render that map preview may be provided to the map service.
2.8 Optional Google Drive backups
Chatterbee provides an optional backup and restore feature using the private App Data area of a Google Drive account you choose.
This feature is separate from your Chatterbee phone-number authentication and is enabled only if you choose to connect a Google account for backup.
A Chatterbee backup may contain information stored locally by the App, including conversation history, contacts maintained by Chatterbee, media, application settings, blocked-user information, and cryptographic material necessary to restore the functionality of your encrypted conversations.
Backup information is encrypted before or as part of the backup process and stored in Google Drive's private App Data area, which is not displayed as an ordinary file in your regular Google Drive.
Private cryptographic keys are not transmitted to or retained by FinRight Studios as part of our normal cloud infrastructure. If you enable Google Drive backup, cryptographic key material necessary to restore your conversations may be included in the encrypted backup stored in your private Google Drive App Data area solely so that functionality can be restored when you restore that backup.
You can delete your Chatterbee backup using the in-app Delete Backup from Drive control. When deleting your Chatterbee account, you are also given the option to delete the associated Google Drive backup. You may choose to preserve that backup instead.
2.9 Reporting content, blocking, and safety enforcement
Chatterbee provides in-app tools to block other users and to report user-to-user messages, media, and behavior that may violate our Terms of Service. Because ordinary messages and media use end-to-end encryption, we cannot see this content unless you (or another participant) voluntarily discloses it by submitting a report.
If you submit a report about another user, we may collect and process:
- The decrypted message text or media you are reporting, and a small amount of surrounding conversation context (shown to you before you submit, so you know what will be shared);
- For reported media specifically, the decryption key and nonce you voluntarily disclose so our safety systems can verify the reported content is authentic before it is reviewed;
- The category/reason you selected and any additional details you provide;
- Metadata confirming you were an actual participant in the relevant conversation at the relevant time, and that the reported message was genuinely relayed as described (so that reports can be validated rather than taken on faith);
- Your report history and basic account-age/report-pattern signals, used only to help our safety team prioritize review and detect coordinated abuse of the reporting system; and
- The outcome of any review (for example, a case, an enforcement decision, or an appeal).
If a report is categorized as involving a potential risk to a minor, it is routed immediately into a separate, restricted process (see below) — selecting that category does not, by itself, result in any action against your account or the account you reported.
We use blocking and reporting information solely as reasonably necessary to operate these safety features, investigate and act on reports, maintain and improve our safety systems, prevent abuse of the reporting system itself, and comply with applicable law. Reported content is not shown to the person you're reporting, and access to it is limited to designated safety personnel.
Child safety content specifically: content that is reported or voluntarily disclosed and indicates apparent child sexual abuse material, enticement, or trafficking is analyzed only using specialized child-safety detection services (not our general AI chat providers), is preserved for the period required by applicable law even if that is longer than our normal retention practices, and is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and other authorities as legally required. We do not scan media you have not reported or disclosed for this purpose — see Section 6.
Chatterbee includes optional cloud-powered artificial intelligence features. These features use a different privacy model from ordinary end-to-end encrypted messaging.
3.1 Dedicated AI companion chats
Dedicated AI companion chats are cloud-powered. When you interact with an AI companion, Chatterbee transmits information needed to generate the response over an encrypted network connection to an AI service provider.
Depending on the feature and conversation, this may include:
- Your current message or request;
- Relevant previous messages from the AI conversation;
- Conversation summaries;
- Stored memories, preferences, or contextual information used to personalize the AI's response;
- Instructions associated with the selected AI character or feature; and
- Other information reasonably necessary to fulfill the AI request.
Dedicated AI companion chats are not end-to-end encrypted. The AI service must be able to process the submitted information in readable form in order to generate a response.
Private Mode does not apply to dedicated AI companion chats. Using a dedicated AI chat necessarily involves transmitting the information needed for that conversation to the applicable cloud AI provider.
3.2 Using AI inside an end-to-end encrypted conversation
Ordinary Chatterbee conversations remain end-to-end encrypted during normal communication between participants. However, Chatterbee also provides optional AI-assisted features that a participant may intentionally invoke inside a conversation.
When an AI feature is invoked, information necessary to perform that request may be decrypted locally on the requesting participant's device and sent over an encrypted network connection to an AI provider.
Content included in such an AI request therefore no longer has end-to-end confidentiality with respect to the AI service processing that request.
3.3 Private Mode
Chatterbee provides an optional Private Mode for conversations between Chatterbee users.
When you enable Private Mode:
- AI features on your device that would use private conversation information are disabled or restricted;
- Other participants may continue to use supported AI features on their own devices;
- When supported AI context is prepared for another participant's request, Chatterbee excludes or redacts information attributable to you before that context is transmitted to the cloud AI provider; and
- The setting does not prevent another participant from independently copying, describing, screenshotting, or otherwise sharing information outside Chatterbee through actions that Chatterbee cannot control.
Private Mode is designed to prevent Chatterbee's built-in AI features from transmitting your attributable conversation information to our AI providers when another participant chooses to use those features.
Private Mode does not apply to dedicated AI companion chats.
3.4 Image and document understanding
If you intentionally ask an AI feature to analyze a photo, screenshot, document, or other supported file, that content and relevant context may be sent to a vision-capable AI service to fulfill your request.
3.5 Speech-to-text
If you choose to use cloud speech-to-text transcription, the audio selected for transcription is transmitted to our speech-to-text provider so that it can be converted into text.
3.6 AI image and sticker generation
When you request an AI-generated image or sticker, Chatterbee may transmit your text prompt, selected reference images, and information necessary to create the requested content to our image-generation provider.
3.7 AI provider logging and model training
Our cloud AI providers may temporarily retain limited request, response, and technical log information for diagnostic, security, abuse-prevention, or operational purposes according to their applicable service terms and retention practices.
Under the AI services and configurations used by Chatterbee, user prompts, responses, and other submitted content are not used to train the providers' AI models.
FinRight Studios does not use AI conversation logs for advertising or to train AI models. If FinRight Studios accesses diagnostic information relating to an AI interaction, we use it only as reasonably necessary to investigate bugs, diagnose failures, maintain the service, address abuse or security issues, respond to a user report, or fix problems with Chatterbee.
3.8 Reporting AI-generated content
Chatterbee provides an in-app mechanism that allows users to report offensive, abusive, unsafe, or otherwise inappropriate AI-generated content.
If you choose to submit a report, Chatterbee may collect and process:
- The AI-generated response you reported;
- The prompt or limited conversation context necessary to understand the report;
- The category or reason selected for the report;
- Technical information associated with the AI request; and
- Any additional explanation you voluntarily provide.
Reported information may be reviewed by FinRight Studios solely as reasonably necessary to investigate the report, enforce applicable policies, maintain content safeguards, diagnose technical problems, address abuse or security concerns, or comply with applicable law.
4. How we use information
We use information described in this Policy to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain Chatterbee;
- Create, authenticate, and manage user accounts;
- Synchronize your local Chatterbee contact list with your device contacts when you permit contact access;
- Route and deliver encrypted messages and media;
- Provide voice and video calls;
- Provide AI companions and other optional AI features you choose to use;
- Provide optional Google Drive backup and restore;
- Provide speech transcription, image generation, image understanding, web search, media search, map previews, and other requested features;
- Deliver push notifications;
- Maintain security and prevent fraud, abuse, spam, and unauthorized use;
- Provide user blocking and content-reporting tools, and investigate and act on user-submitted reports involving AI-generated content or user-to-user content and behavior, including through human review and AI-assisted (never fully automated) prioritization;
- Detect and prevent enforcement/ban evasion;
- Comply with legal obligations, including preservation and reporting obligations related to child-safety content;
- Diagnose crashes, bugs, service failures, and performance issues;
- Understand feature usage and improve reliability and functionality; and
- Respond to support requests or communicate with you about your account or the service.
5. End-to-end encryption
Ordinary one-to-one and group messages between Chatterbee users are protected using end-to-end encryption.
Message content is encrypted on the sender's device before being transmitted. Chatterbee's cloud infrastructure receives encrypted message data for delivery but does not possess the participant-held cryptographic keys necessary to read the plaintext conversation through our normal messaging infrastructure.
Recipient devices download and decrypt messages locally using cryptographic material available to authorized conversation participants.
Private device cryptographic keys are stored using secure Android storage mechanisms and are not transmitted to FinRight Studios' normal cloud infrastructure.
If you voluntarily enable Google Drive backup, encrypted cryptographic key material necessary for restoration may be included in your private backup as described in Section 2.8.
Important: end-to-end encryption does not apply to dedicated AI companion conversations or to content intentionally submitted for cloud AI processing. See Section 3.
6. Temporary cloud message and media delivery
Chatterbee is designed so that our cloud systems act primarily as a temporary delivery mechanism for ordinary end-to-end encrypted conversation content rather than as a permanent cloud conversation archive.
When ordinary message content or media is sent:
- The applicable conversation data is encrypted on the sender's device;
- Encrypted message information is temporarily placed in the recipient mailbox system and encrypted media may be temporarily stored using our cloud media-storage provider;
- Intended recipient devices download the applicable content;
- After all intended recipients have successfully retrieved the content, the temporary cloud delivery copies are deleted; and
- A cleanup process removes stale undelivered message and media data remaining in the cloud after seven days.
Conversation history retained by the App is primarily stored locally on participating users' devices.
Because attachments are encrypted on your device with a unique key before upload, our cloud media storage provider only ever receives unreadable ciphertext — we do not, and currently cannot, automatically scan media you upload for prohibited content. Detection of prohibited media (including child-safety analysis, described in Section 2.9) is limited to media that a user voluntarily discloses when filing a report.
7. Service providers and information processing
We provide information to service providers only as reasonably necessary to operate Chatterbee or provide a feature you choose to use. We do not sell your personal information.

Service providers may process information using infrastructure located in countries other than your own and may use subprocessors necessary to provide their services. Their handling of information is also subject to their applicable contractual and legal obligations.
We may disclose information when we reasonably believe disclosure is required by applicable law or valid legal process; is necessary to protect the rights, security, property, or safety of Chatterbee, our users, or others; or is necessary in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of all or part of our business, subject to applicable privacy obligations.
8. Data retention
- Delivered messages and media: temporary cloud delivery copies are deleted after all intended recipients have successfully retrieved them.
- Stale delivery data: cloud cleanup processes remove stale undelivered message and media data after seven days.
- Local conversation history and other local data: information stored locally remains on your device until deleted by you, removed by an App feature, cleared with App data, or otherwise removed from the device.
- Account and profile information: retained while your Chatterbee account remains active and deleted or scheduled for deletion when you delete your account, except where limited retention is required for a legitimate legal, fraud-prevention, or security purpose.
- Google Drive backups: retained in the private App Data area of the Google account you selected until you delete the backup or Google removes it according to its own applicable policies. When deleting your Chatterbee account, you may choose to delete this backup or preserve it.
- Call and connection metadata: retained only for the period reasonably necessary to establish calls, support reconnection, diagnose technical failures, maintain security, and meet applicable operational requirements.
- AI provider diagnostic logs: AI and speech providers may temporarily retain request, response, or technical information for diagnostic, security, abuse-prevention, or operational purposes according to their applicable retention policies. Under the services and configurations used by Chatterbee, this information is not used to train their AI models.
- AI reports: information you voluntarily submit through the AI reporting feature may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to investigate and address the report, maintain safety systems, diagnose related issues, and comply with applicable obligations.
- User-to-user reports, cases, and moderation records: voluntarily disclosed reported content, the limited conversation-membership and message-relay metadata used to validate a report (independent of message content), moderator case records, enforcement history, and appeal records are retained for as long as reasonably necessary to investigate and resolve the matter, support an appeal, maintain audit trails, and comply with applicable law. Unreported message-relay metadata used only to make a report possible is retained for a limited window (currently up to 60 days) and then deleted, except where it is already tied to an open report or case, in which case it is retained until that matter (and any appeal) is fully resolved.
- Blocking records: retained while your account and the blocked account both exist, or until you remove the block.
- Ban-evasion records: to prevent a suspended or terminated account from evading enforcement by recreating an account, we retain a one-way cryptographic hash (HMAC) of the phone number associated with the suspension or termination — never the phone number itself — for as long as the restriction remains in effect.
- Legally required preservation: where applicable law requires us to preserve specific content or records (for example, content reported to NCMEC, which U.S. law requires providers to preserve for a defined period), we retain that content for the legally required period even where it would otherwise be deleted sooner under an account-deletion request or another retention rule in this Policy.
- Analytics and diagnostics: aggregated or diagnostic information may be retained for the period reasonably necessary to analyze application performance, identify recurring problems, maintain security, and improve the service.
9. Account deletion
You may initiate deletion of your Chatterbee account and associated FinRight Studios cloud data either:
- From the account or privacy settings inside the Chatterbee App; or
- Through our website at Delete My Data.
When account deletion is completed, FinRight Studios deletes or schedules for deletion the personal information associated with your Chatterbee account from our active systems, subject only to limited retention where reasonably necessary for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or similar legitimate purposes.
Legal preservation exception: account deletion does not delete content or records we are legally required to preserve — for example, content already reported to NCMEC, or a record already retained as part of an open moderation case or appeal. That information is preserved only for the legally required or reasonably necessary period described in Section 8, not indefinitely.
Information already stored locally on another participant's device as part of that participant's conversation history may remain on that device after you delete your account. FinRight Studios cannot remotely delete information retained on another user's device.
If you previously enabled Google Drive backup, the account-deletion process gives you the option to also delete your Chatterbee backup from the private App Data area of your Google Drive account.
Deleting the Google Drive backup is optional. If you choose to preserve it, deleting your Chatterbee account will not delete that separately stored backup. You may later delete it using Chatterbee's backup controls where available or through the applicable controls provided by Google.
10. Your privacy rights and choices
- Profile access and correction: you may view and edit supported profile information from within the App.
- Private Mode: you may enable Private Mode for conversations between users as described in Section 3. Private Mode does not apply to dedicated AI chats.
- Contacts: you may grant or revoke contact access through Android's system settings.
- Camera, microphone, and media: you may manage applicable permissions through Android's system settings.
- Notifications: you may control notification permissions and notification categories through your device settings.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children who are not legally permitted to use Chatterbee. If we learn that such information has been collected, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to Chatterbee in violation of these requirements, please contact us at [email protected] .
12. International processing
Chatterbee's service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Those countries may have data-protection laws different from the laws where you live.
Where required by applicable law, we use appropriate contractual, technical, or organizational safeguards for international transfers of personal information.
13. Security
We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information processed by Chatterbee. Depending on the type of information, these safeguards include:
- End-to-end encryption for ordinary user-to-user and group messaging;
- Encryption in transit using TLS for communications with cloud services;
- Secure Android storage mechanisms for private cryptographic keys;
- Encrypted optional Google Drive backups;
- Authentication and access controls;
- Limited cloud retention of ordinary encrypted message and media delivery data;
- App-integrity and abuse-prevention mechanisms; and
- Restricted use of diagnostic information for operational, security, support, moderation, or debugging purposes.
No method of electronic transmission, processing, or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
14. No sale of personal information
FinRight Studios does not sell your personal information.
We do not use private Chatterbee conversation content for advertising profiling or sell private conversation content to advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties.
15. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Chatterbee changes, as our service providers change, or as legal and regulatory requirements evolve.
When we update this Policy, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Where appropriate or required, we may provide additional notice through the App or by another reasonable method.
